In the recent documentary not quite hollywood , the talking heads mention the Australian influence on Italian genre films, where an entire genre of Mad Max–style rip-offs emerged. What are these movies, and can I get them on netflix?

If there is a whole Italian sub-genre of Mad-Max rip-offs, I have high hopes. Spaghetti apocalypse?

Best answer: Hey Kittensofthenight, you have just stumbled upon one of the most wonderful B-movie experiences ever: watching Italo-apocalypse flicks in which guys in early 1980s cars do battle with cruel, flamethrower-slinging mutants in the ruins of used to be called civilization.

I recommend:

* After the Fall of New York

* 1990: The Bronx Warriors

Best answer: Oh and Exterminators of the Year 3000.

To be clear 1990: BRONX WARRIORS is most assuredly a rip-off of THE WARRIORS.

But, check out movies by Enzo Castellari, Joe D'Amato, and Lucio Fulci.

Yeah, you're right, it's actually a little more like THE WARRIORS + ESCAPE FROM NY.

Response by poster: Oh that's so great. I wonder how I missed this? I have cannibal holocaust on vhs, love Fulci, et. all...

Thanks!

Warrior of the Lost World seems like a lo-budget experiment related to this genre that completely failed. Link goes to the MST3K version...
