cheap air ticket/last minute

How do I find last-minute deep discounts to fly without using the usual well-known sites? Is there a "secret" out there that I don't know? Now that there's no bereavement fares I need to figure out a cheap ticket from NYC to Cincinnati. [Previous metafilter answers may be out of date these days]...Thanks
Good luck finding a cheap flight into/out of CVG. Is it at all possible for you to fly into Dayton and have someone pick you up? Just today I got an email from Airtran offering $50-each way flights to/from JFK.
As for good sites, I live by Kayak. I live in Cincinnati and LA, so I have Kayak set up to text and email me anytime there is a flight round trip between CVG/DAY and LAX for >$200.
