large size warm socks

I need to find socks for size 15 mens feet that are warm and unusual, i.e. wild colors/patterns. I just checked Marshall Fields and it has aprox. 3 pairs to pick from - all navy blue. I seriously can't drive around town looking for these like I did last year for the Crayolas that my brother wanted (those damn 64 boxes are hard to find). Any ideas?

LL Bean. They sell boot socks made of Polartec in his size. There were some colorful patterns, but I haven't looked ina while.

I second LL Bean - love them. They (super quick delivery) sell XL socks that fit a size 15 shoe - not "wild", but super warm and woodsy looking. The Soxx Shop sells what they call 'king size' socks, in diamond and foulard patterns, although I wouldn't call them wild.

Nicole Miller has some of the wildest men's socks I've ever seen, but I don't know what sizes they come in. The patterns are insane, like the ties.

I'm wearing some Acorn polartec socks right now and they are super super warm and fleecey-comfy. I wear them for warmth and just ignore the ridiculous pattern. They seem to come in XL but I'm not sure if that works for size 15 feet.

You could always contact someone you know who knits (even if you only know them via the internets, ahem) and commission some socks. Of course, this has to be done ahead of time for holidays and whatnot, but then you are sure to have some nicely fitting socks in your choice of colors and patterns ...

I would go with LLBean. The quality of socks, on average, continues to go downhill, and thus you'll be getting quality, too.

Oh, I forgot to ask if you knew how disgustingly easy it is to sew fleece socks, juicylicious.

Do you know how disgustingly easy it is to sew fleece socks, juicylicious? I don't know if you know anything about sewing, or if this is for a Christmas gift, or what, but you'll be chuffed by the aisles of insane prints and solids that fleece comes in, in any craft or fabric store - you can buy a pattern there and whip up several pairs in an evening. I can sew a pair in 15 minutes, and I don't have one of those fancy-schmancy machines, either. I taught my husband to sew using the fleece sock pattern, so you know it's easy, if a beginner can do it.

If you live around the Twin Cities (my old stomping ground), hie thee to (I can't believe I'm saying this) The Mall of America. As I recall, they have (or had) no fewer than three separate stores that sold nothing but socks. At the very least, you could find the mall's store listing and give these places a call.

My favourite socks are Hot Sox, which can be found in many different stores. Not only are they really awesome looking, but they're really well made.

Sew? Seriously? Sew?

My sewing ability is limited buttons and the ocassional curtain rod pocket.

This is a Christmas present for my brother, he of huge feet. He's an artist and according to my SIL he likes "colored" "funky" "argyle" socks. He wears size 15 shoe. I would get the polartec socks, but they're $16 ea and want to give him more than one pair.

I've been checking out sock sites and have found some patterned socks, but I'm having a difficult time calculating the fabric. He doesn't need "dress" socks, but all the patterned socks seem to be very lightweight. Surely there must be heavier argyle socks for big feet???? A lot of the socks are "70% cotton 30% nylon." Is that good?

Maybe I could buy a big package of tube socks and dye them different colors. Hmmmm.

Not argyle, but these are anatomically correct, which is kind of cool.
