Scootering back to Aus (Melbourne) from UK and want to transfer my motorcyle license. I have a UK A1 class motorcycle license (A full A1 licence permits you to ride any motorcycle up to 125cc and a power output of up to 11kW (14.6 bhp) without `L' plates, carry pillion passengers and use motorways.) Can this be transferred to something useful back in Aus (Victoria) so I can ride a Vespa (150cc) with sitting any more tests or having L/P plates??

From VicRoads:

"If you hold a driver licence from one of the following countries you are not required to undertake any tests provided your overseas licence is current or not expired by more than five years. However, you still need to make an appointment to changeover your licence if you are from a recognised country.
Austria Finland Isle of Man Netherlands (Holland) Sweden
Belgium France Italy Norway Switzerland
Canada Germany Japan Portugal UK
Croatia Greece Luxembourg Singapore USA
Denmark Ireland Malta 2 Spain Guernsey "

The VicRoads website does not seem to distinguish between licences for different vehicles

Best answer: OK - I got an email back from VicRoads. And it seems I can!

Dear Mr ------

Thank you for your email regarding the conversion of your UK A1 motorcycle to a Victorian licence.

If at the time of your conversion you hold a full car driver licence and you have held the motorcycle A1licence for 12 months or more, tyou will be issued with a full car and bike licence.

If you have held the A1licence for less than 12 months at the time of change over, you will be issued with a full motorcycle licence however there will be restrictions (eg. not exceeding 660cc, no pillion passengers) imposed on the motorcycle licence until the completion of the 12 month period.

I trust this addresses your enquiry.

Kind regards
Licence Policy Analyst
