maps in the old style

I am looking for images of old maps that have creatures drawn in the water. For example, perhaps a drawing of a sea serpent warning people seafarers to be on the lookout for monsters. Or mermaids, captioned with something like "thar be mermaids." I am sure I have seen plenty of maps like this, but I can't seem to find any at the moment.

I am looking for links to actual images, not links to sites that may or may not have these images, like BibliOdyssey.

I believe the canonical phrase you're looking for is actually Here there be monsters.

Carta Marina - more sea serpents, krakens, and the like then you can shake a stick at.

Veer offers an excellent collection of high-res maps, including a CD-ROM called "Extraordinary Cartographic Motifs" with a few map sea creatures.

Browse the collection here.

They are very good quality, but not the CD-ROMs are not cheap. You can, however, register for free and download nice un-watermarked, low-res copies of some of the images.

oh, Sova...that second link of Ortelius' Islandia made my day.
a copy of it used to hang in my childhood bedroom and it was lost, along with my recollection of the title, amidst many moves.

Thank you!

Google Image search for "Here there be dragons" comes up with several links to old map images.
