display the wordpress loop on any page

Wordpress: What's the easiest way to display the "mini-loop" on any page?
I currently use simplepie to display what's basically the rss feed on a static front page. For the front page, though, I'd like to move away from that solution because the excerpts are funky, you can't have paragraph breaks, you can't have links, etc.
For inside pages, I'd like a clean solution that gives me static content on a particular page, but also displays truncated posts -- and this is key -- with the Zebra page showing only posts in Category Zebra, the Aardvark page showing only posts in category Aardvark, etc.
I can't do much with php beyond copying and pasting as directed, so speak slowly Thanks for any ideas!

Would using something like the Query Posts widget and the Widget Logic plugin do what you need? There's a tutorial of sorts here (note, I haven't watched it):

Using several loops in one template sometimes can have one influence the other. In which case it's good to know you can reset the query of that additional loop after it's run. And see more tricks like that here.
