How do I creatively research where I'm NOT supposed to go in Central Park?

I'm looking for blogs, photography collections, books, or landmarks I could search on that explore the seamy side of Central Park. I don't need links to specific crimes that happened there, or history timelines. Stuff from the 1980's would be absolutely amazing, but present day is more than fine. If I can't find what I need, how would I safely plan a daytime exploration of the non-touristy Central Park? I am not located in the New York area, but have visited the city.

Searching the NY Times archives might be your best bet to find old crimes in Central Park.

Central Park, even the non-touristy parts, is about as crime-free as an urban park gets. There's maybe one or two crimes a year that rise to newsworthy status. Otherwise it's just the occasional pickpocketing or purse snatching. The latest NYPD CompStat report (click on the park on this map) for the park shows 12 robberies, 4 felonious assaults, 19 grand larcenies and one stolen car so far this year. No murders, rapes or burglaries. That's down 10% from last year and 85% from 1993.
