Which are the best artist residency/studio programs around the world? I am looking for programs which are innovative and are multi-disciplinary.

Not sure about innovative, some more specifics on what you are interested in would be helpful, but I attended Watts Atelier in Encinitas, California (near San Diego).

It is considered by many in the concept art field to be one of the best schools for classic drawing and painting instruction. The improvement I saw many people make in a couple of years was amazing. Also the classes are small and have 2 teachers in each class with one on one critiques each class. Extremely helpful.

The MacDowell Colony in New Hampshire is fantastic. The oldest residency program in the US, they accept artists from all disciplines. They have communal spaces for people to share ideas and inspiration, or if you want privacy, they will unobtrusively deliver meals to your cabin in picnic baskets. Their list of past artists reads like a who's who in the American humanities.

I also second R. Mutt's recommendation of Skowhegan.

If you have a particular location or emphasis in mind, you might have a look at the Alliance of Artist Communities and College Art Association.
