Question: Rental Car Accident filter

Hertz fender bender, do I need to file police report, and am I covered?

I backing up out of my parents driveway, I hit my mom's car with the rear of my Hertz rental car. Dents and scratches , but no other damage. I have Liability Insurance supplement but no Loss Damage Waiver as that should be taken care of by Visa since I rented using my Visa card. Should we file a police report?

Another question, related: The liability protection states, quote:
Within the limits stated in this subparagraph, hertz will indemnify, hold harmless....which by definition EXCLUDES ANY OF YOUR OR ANY AUTHORIZED OPERATOR'S FAMILY MEMBERS...RESIDING WITH YOU OR THEM..."
I don't live with my parents, I was just visiting, will the liability thing cover the damage to my mother's car?

I doubt you'll have to file a police report, in many jurisdictions they won't even come out unless there's an injury.

I doubt you'll have to file a police report, in many jurisdictions they won't even come out unless there's an injury.

Not true everywhere. It was a felony not to report any vehicle damage in the city I used to live in. I've been through it.

Another question, related: The liability protection states, quote:

That differs depending on where your insurance is from. For instance, when you hold MN insurance and incur any rental car damage, the damage is covered under your liability insurance. If you have insurance, you're fine. I think that line's to cover their asses in case you don't have insurance (last time I rented from Hertz, they didn't even check for proof of insurance).

are you saying that you purchased extra insurance provided by Hertz when you rented the car?

In one city where I lived, the police report for non-injury accidents was a form you filled out online. If you can have a police report, it's probably a good idea for when you file your claim.
