Question: We don't need any more doom tokens!

(Where) can I buy *just* the board for the Arkham Horror boardgame?

My boyfriend (occasional metafilterer, hence the anon) loves the boardgame Arkham Horror, made by Fantasy Flight games. This is one of those boardgames with a jillion decks of cards, lots of little cardboard pieces, etc. The board (but not any of the little pieces) got water damaged a few months ago, and while the game is still playable I'd love to get him a new board.

But how? Last resort is obviously to purchase an entirely new (or used) copy, but I'm curious if there's anywhere I can buy just the board. Surely people must lose all the little pieces and have boards sitting around that they want to sell? I haven't been able to identify useful ebay searches for this, so even hints on that would be helpful :)

Boardgame Geek is a good first stop for questions like this. They have an internal auction system as well as links to eBay auctions. They also have chat boards where you might be able to connect with someone who has a spare board.

I really don't see why, if it means that much to him, you couldn't just buy the whole game and give him the board.

As noted, Boardgamegeek listing for Arkham Horror is your friend here. You could try asking in the forums there. You could also try contacting Fantasy Flight directly. Many publishers are quite helpful in exactly this sort of situation and they have a good reputation.

You could try contacting the publisher and just asking for a replacement.

I'd second emailing FFG. For the whole board, you'll probably have to pay something, but I've gotten free replacement bits and bobs when the originals were damaged or destroyed. They were quick and polite, and their customer service is top notch in my experience. Rio Grande on the other hand, left a lot to be desired...
