woop woop!

MusicFilter: Tell me your favorite songs that have "woop woop" in them.

I'm making a mix of woopwoop songs. I'm looking to stay mostly in the realms of reggae, funk, hiphop, salsa, boogaloo, worldbeat, etc. Not so interested in house/techno or, say, yodeling.

Some examples of the flavor I'm going for:

- Soulsalicious by Tape Five
- Calabria by Enur f. Natasja (nsfw maybe?)
- Sunday Arak by Balkan Beat Box
- Night Over Manaus by Boozoo Bajou
- Sound of Da Police by KRS One

muchas gracias!

p.s. if anyone wants to enlighten me as to what latin/south american instrument it is that makes a woopwoop sound (like in Soulsalicious), please do.

It's not through the whole song, but MCA labels the woop-woop as "the disco call" in "Shake Your Rump."

Cuíca?

Thank GOD you posted this question. I've been wondering about this instrument for years but everyone I've ever asked has thought I was insane for inquiring about a "woof woof" instrument. The song that sparked my curiosity in the first place was Paul Simon's Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard (not sure if the linked version has cuíca, but the studio recording does).

Yes, it's a cuíca—as anyone who has ever owned a cheesy digital drum machine can tell you :)

KRS - 1's "Sound of da police" came to mind right away.

Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth "The Main Ingredient" - to be fair, he sampled KRS's "woop woop". Apologies for the link - they never made a true video for this one.

Nas "One Mic" - (Embedding disabled, boo). You'll have to wait for the sound effect to come in, roughly about 1 minute into the song.

This is a ridiculous video, but Pull Over that ass is too fat is a good one.
