idkfa - do not want!

I'm fairly noobish to Team Fortress 2, and wanted a place to practice some sniping and heavy action without getting my face blown off by seasoned pros. Some light reading online indicated that there were "achievement servers" - special custom levels set up to practice your skills, so I found one in the serverlist and connected. Once in, another player chatted me to type in !givemeall for more information.

What happened was quite jarring. All of a sudden I'm getting nearly every achievement in the roster. Achievements that I was looking forward to working for - boom, there. Every unlockable (except hats), in my backpack. Sounds like a noob's dream come true, but I wanted to earn my goodies, just like everyone else.

I've done some more searching online and the only things I've found were links to apps that I don't much trust, along with dire warnings of being VAC-banned for modding your setup. Beyond that, I joined the forums, but again, all threads about this subject led to little. I have no idea how to directly contact a Moderator or Valve to see if they can correct this issue.

Now I'm kitted up like a champ, but feel like a chump. I'm wondering if anyone here knows of a way to (legitimately) reset their achievements/unlocks themselves or contact Valve and ask them to do so. I feel cheated, and would much rather just reset and then start all of my achievements over again. Any help or suggestions you could offer would be much appreciated.

From the main menu, choose "CHARACTER INFO AND SETUP". Click the "STATS" tab. At the bottom right, click "RESET STATS". Your game play statistics and achievements should all be reset for you.

Side note: I'm an admin and founding member of a TF2 community with a heavy emphasis on teamwork and community over skill and performance. We'd love to have you come by and check things out. If you'd like details, send me a PM or an email (it's in my profile).

April 20, 2009 - Added the ability for players to reset their player stats using the Reset Stats button on the Stats menu. This does not reset achievements

I am at work now and can't test, but am unsure if this will do it. Also, I appreciate the invite, will send an email when I get home.

Resetting the stats won't delete your achievements or unlockables. I don't know of any way to reset achievements, but you can just delete the unlockables from the Character Info page.

There's a MeFi gaming group, MeFight Club, which is a lot of fun and doesn't at all mind newbies. The public server is here.

I'm almost certain resetting stats doesn't reset your achievements, just your stats. This forum claims that you can still reset them via a console command.

Achievement servers are not what they sound like- the ones that do not unlock achievements via cheats are set up so that people allow themselves to be killed for the achievement unlock in exchange for you doing the same. Very little learning, just grinding the unlocks for the weapons. There is a Metafilter tf2 group called Mefight. While I will not vouch for your safety, you will get a lot of helpful advice if you ask for it.

There is a website aimed at training gamers. Here is the list of TF2 tutors

I just realized that my answer doesnt even match your main question. I jumping in from your top question. Sorry.

While I don't know about the console tricks hindmost suggested, I'm fairly certain that Valve does not reset achievements. You can delete your unlockables in the backpack area and just hope that the random drop system give you your stuff in a timely manner, but overall I'd just say take it in stride and just play the game.

Also a fellow member of Mefight which has already been linked twice now, and I also vaguely remember your name. Feel free to drop by and/or add me as friend on Steam (profile page has the link) if you have any more questions.
