What do you mean "black and white bird" is too vague

I'm having no luck identifying this bird, seen in one of the South Florida wetlands parks.

I've got a couple of the North American birding books but I'm coming up empty. I've also tried a GIS in the hopes that it would lead me to a site that identifies it, but obviously I'm being overwhelmed with results. Anyone?

It's a black-necked stilt.

By and by, used my National Audubon Society - Field Guide to Birds - Eastern Region, for the identification.

I arrived at the same conclusion. Google images is sort of great for this. I googled black white bird water and it's on the first page of results.

Figures...I got home and my wife had identified it (same way you did Jess, I should have added "water" to my search). Thanks everybody.

I'll have to stamp a best answer on her forehead.
