FaxFilter: Our fax line won't receive all the faxes all the time, only some of the faxes some of the time - and even then not with any consistency. Google-fu (and even bing-fu) are failing me. Of course, there's

It sends fine. However, receiving is another problem.
Our other offices can't send to it with any sort of consistency. This was not a problem until this new machine, Canon L170. I have tried another brand of machine, but it had the same problems.

Things I have tried:
- Are the offices that can't send using old machines? Nope. Various ages, makes, and models.
- Is everyone sending at the same time causing a jam? What I've been able to piece together from the logs does not support this. It's also not in memory (the thing has a 450pg memory).
- Is it the lines? Had them checked both inside the building and outside building by two of our service providers. No issues there.
- Is it the machine? Tried a different brand machine, same problem.

I'm just at a loss for this. I don't even know who to call at this point because I don't know if it's the lines or equipment here or there. All the IT people are stumped. It's not like it's the same office that always has problems has sending - it's everyone has problems sending a majority of the time. Sometimes things get through. I've had them send the activity reports so I could check it out.

I'm so confused......

Move the canon to another office/line altogether and see if it still has issues. Since more than just the one machine has the problem I would bet it's the line. It could possibly be both.

Service people (AT&T, RoadRunner, etc) are also not the be-all-end-all. You have no idea how many times I have to demand that they send out someone else, new devices, or run extra tests because they won't admit their equipment/work is the problem. Make sure they physically check all connections and lines, especially 66 blocks.

I really want to think it's the line too, but wouldn't they have problems sending then? They never get any transmission errors. I'm not well-versed on how fax machines work, tho.

I'll have to give Verizon another call, I guess.

What kind of phone system does your office have? Is it VoIP? An Analog PBX? Or is this fax machine connected directly to the telephone network?

it's on its own POTS line

Does it even ring when someone attempts to call it?

Yes. We do get faxes at it. Sometimes.

So it always rings, but only sometimes accepts the fax? Is it in 'fax only' receive mode? Do you subscribe to a distinctive ring pattern service?

nope. it's a fax only line. i checked all the settings to make sure it was fax only mode, etc etc etc to make sure it wasn't trying to pick up phone calls. no one should be voice calling anyways, unpublished number.
