ok, this has been bothering me ever since I first started using THOMAS and saw these on the day's record: exactly what would an autism awareness stamp or a school safety awareness stamp look like?

Here are some prior "vague concept" stamps:

Stop Family Violence
Diabetes Awareness
Prostate Cancer Awareness
Organ and Tissue Donation

It seems that their general method is to find a symbol for the concept and then combine it with the name of the concept in a collage-style art piece.

My guess is that it would be like the other semipostals--there would be some kind of design with, as smackfu says, the text of whatever the stamp was in aid of.

I would think that an autism awareness stamp would do well to feature art by a child with autism, and that a school safety awareness stamp would do well to feature the winning entry in a design contest for schoolchildren. But since I am unlikely ever to be appointed Postmaster General of these United States, my opinion is worth approximately one metric lark's fart.
