In the works Canon DSLR features?

Does anyone know if Canon has plans for releasing a consumer DSLR that will have Multi-Aspect Ratio Shooting, as Olympus has done?

Thank you!

From looking at Oly's page on the E-30, it looks like this is just an in-camera cropping function. I mean, it's not as if the sensor can magically become a 4:3 sensor or something. So this seems like a very minor feature at best. I wouldn't hold your breath. Most RAW converters can crop to a ratio when you convert, or you could just crop the JPEG.

Echo selfnoise. I'm no expert on CMOS/CCD design, but I can't imagine they're actually using multiple sensors and sliding them around every time you flip the switch - this is definitely just an in-camera crop, and I wouldn't expect it to necessarily become a must-have like live view has.

I agree with the above. I at first wanted this on my Nikon D90- I strongly prefer pictures with more cinematic aspect ratios.

But, I got into the habit of just cropping, which is all the camera would be doing anyway. This gives you a little more leeway to decide where to chop based on the particular picture.

The only disadvantage is that you can't see the cinematic aspect ratio on your screen when you're shooting. One low-tech, but effective solution, is to put black tape on the top and bottom.
