Question: Travel San Antonio

San Antonio this weekend: stuff to do, restaurants, etc. Tell me all!

Driving up on Sat, driving back on Mon. What should we do? Where should we stay? Where should we eat?

Young couple looking to do fun stuff to do, not uber-expensive, but it doesn't have to be on the super-cheap either. Priority on cool local places to eat and interesting things to see.

Previously.

Boyfriend and I had a great time at the Alamo (make sure to catch a tour and watch the movie) and at Six Flags Fiesta (we bough our tickets online at half-price), but it was in the middle of October and there were no crowds whatsoever. The Missions are very pretty too, The Mission of San Jose in particular.

I was going to recommend some attractions from my fabulous Texas travel guide, but it turns out that they have everything available online (scroll down for attractions).

McNay Art Museum, La Fogata restaurant on Vance Jackson, the Market and Riverwalk of course.

Across from the Market is Pico de Gallo, the Mexican restaurant where the locals eat. Mi Tierra is the famous one in the Market itself. Both are owned by the same family. The great thing about Mi Tierra is not the mariachis, not the 24 hours operation, but the Mexican bakery up front. Yum!

The King William district has beautiful old houses and a burgeoning arts scene.

Go on the Alamo tour, it's across from the Riverwalk. Even more interesting is the tour of all of the local missions, south of downtown. It is worth it.

Boerne or Fredricksburg if you want to venture into the Hill Country to experience lingering German culture and country music. Enchanted Rock out that way for some low-intensity hiking/rock climbing.

New Braunfels has a really nice water park that built the river into it. Or go do river tubing in that general area. Gruene for dancing and beer is a few miles outside of New Braunfels. That area is famous for sausage and good German food. Look also for genuine Czech kolaches.

You will not be at a loss for things to do or eat in San Antonio. It just depends on your interests. And whether it is blazing hot. If it is, all bets are off. Sit inside a nice restaurant on the river and pickle yourself in margaritas. Actually the best in my opinion are at La Fogata.

There's a very cool record store near Trinity University I used to go to in high school when I wore all black. For the life of me I can't remember its name. Someone will chime in no doubt.

My favorite restaurants in San Antonio are Picante Grill (best. enchiladas. ever.), The Cove (great food, beer and music) and Liberty Bar (very unique and tasty).
