Cheapo travel to grenada

I'm really surprised by how expensive it is to go to Grenada over most other places I have looked. Are there any tricks to getting over there that could help bring the cost down?

I'm looking to go in late September or late October. I'm used to getting over to Europe, and I have been able to find insanely inexpensive airfare for the past few years just by persistence - This will be my first trip to the islands. Is it just generally more expensive? Also, I've noticed that online deals are not as prevalent as they used to be, I'm assuming that this is due to declining travel in general.

I am open to any advice, from when to buy, when to travel, HOW to get there (boat, etc) to keep this inexpensive, yet relatively practical. And legal.

If you're going from the US, it's more expensive - but, you can check on the cost of a trip from Europe - it's much less expensive from that direction. If you do go, it'll be a nice mix of folks from all over. I met mostly German and British nationalities over there when we went about 8 years ago.
