iBook shuts down when I don't want it to!

Is my aging iBook about to die? (power management problems inside?)

Whenever I put my iBook (4 years old) to sleep and/or close the lid, it shuts off completely. Google suggested a PMU reset, which I did (I think -- although I guess I have no way of verifying that I did this correctly), and I still have the problem. I replaced the battery about 4 months ago with a 3rd party battery -- could this be part of the problem?

What does this mean? Is this thing about to die? Is there anything I can do to pull another year or 2 out of it, other than backing up religiously?

I had a similar problem with my iBook (same vintage) about 4 months ago, but it got worse and worse where it would start turning off while I was doing things and eventually wouldn't turn on at all anymore.

I had the same thing happen as selenized describes, with it eventually not powering up at all, but my iBook was from 2002 so quite a bit older. Some people I talked to thought it may have had to do with the logic board issues, but I think they cleared those up by the time your iBook was manufactured. I got it repaired by Apple and they basically gave me all new parts (hard drive, disc drive, battery) so I don't think they knew what was up either. That extended the life another two years until another issue killed it completely.
