Imaginary villages of old NM

I'm looking for the name of an imaginary New Mexican village.

A long time ago I took a class on New Mexican history, and learned of a village that was invented by a Spanish governor in order to fraudulently inflate the size of the population to his superiors. I have pored through all of my books from the class that I still have, but can't find anything about the incident. Google and Wikipedia have both failed me.

OK, I've run into this idea before myself but in the context of Spanish Missions. I'm looking over my bookmarks, but I seem to recall not being able to find my ref last time I wanted a look either.
