Where to go in Paris tonight?

Alone in Paris. Happily but at a loss for what to tonight/tomorrow night. In 11th, want to walk to fun, interesting place.

And by place, I mean, well, not sure what I mean. Not another museum or square (it is after 9 pm now) but I guess, yeah, bar or restaurant where a single late-30s woman can have a drink, and meet other travelers or locals... I speak French a little and am somewhat adventurous.. Just do NOT want to stay in borrowed apt. for any night on 5-night stay. FYI, I'm near Place de la Bastille, and familiar w/ Le Marais. Merci beaucoup.

Best answer: I can suggest le Batofar, a jazz/alternative music venue on a very red and very imposing ship on the Seine. Tonight there's a free concert of electronic music (tomorrow is hip-hop...).
Their site is at: http://www.batofar.org/
address: 11 quai François Mauriac, Paris 13

Have fun!

I can't recommend a specific place, but Rue de Lappe (11e) and Rue Ste Croix la Bretonnerie (4e) have a lot of bars and are good for people watching. The latter, as you're probably aware, is a heavily gay male area.

I'm pretty sure there was a wine bar on Rue des Tournelles and Rue Saint Antoine but I can't remember the name.

Visit this fantastic bookstore.

This is my favorite bookstore in the world. Right across the Seine from Notre Dame. Mostly english language books. I checked their website and there aren't any events scheduled, but there are always lots of interesting english speakers hanging around. I believe the hours are noon-midnight.

Best answer: I would suggest the 4th, particularly the Lizard Lounge (lots of foreigners as I recall) 18, rue du Bourg-Tibourg, 75004 Paris

as for something unique and a little further away - metro there and perhaps a taxi back - is the Paris Mosque. You can just sit in the front and enjoy a mint tea and some dessert. They also have a bath house, but I'm pretty sure it won't be open at night.
2 Square Robert Montagne, 75005 Paris, France

If you're looking for a little more action, I would recommend wandering down to the 5th, and just east of the fountain at Saint Michelle is a series of alleyways that are quaint and lively (just don't eat there). On the west side of the fountain are more small streets that should have more "grown up" venues, but also lively. I believe the Frog and Princess (9 rue Princesse, 75006 Paris) is in that direction and will certainly satisfy your want of tourists and foreigners.

My only qualifier is that many of the tourists you find will be college age. Older may be there too, but those should be good places to start.

Batofar is great, and it's a really friendly club for women alone. Good, fun crowd.

I'd personally recommend Les Refuge des Fondues in Montmarte. Great fun and you can't fail to meet other diners.

Failing that, and if the weather is nice, you could take a bottle of wine down to the Pont des Arts. Buskers, nice crowd, guaranteed to meet people.

Le Bofinger brasserie right at Place de la Bastille. Ask to sit downstairs, not upstairs. fantastic.
