Help! Running iCal from an iPod? (more inside) posted by LongDrive to (4 comments total)
Been searching all over on this for weeks, but like so many things, it seems that the most simple requests has yielded nothing but very confusing results, such as iSynCal, Home Brewed Home Folder Creation on iPods, WebDAV, exporting and importing, etc etc.
What I am trying to do is very simple (in my mind) I have a mac at home, and a mac at work, plus one ipod. I would like to be able to do the following: Plug my iPod into my work computer, run iCal off my iPod, edit multiple calendars and todo lists from that computer, so that when I plug my iPod into my home machine, I can access those calendars. So basically the iPod is my pda and contains all the calendar data, and both computers are tools to access and change that data. Sorry if this has been a bit of a ramble, but if I can't figure this out soon, I may have to start killing some goldfish. Thanks in advance! posted by LongDrive at 5:40 PM on November 22, 2004
My understanding is that Apple doesn't want you to be able to do that syncing without subscribing to .Mac, so this isn't a matter of finding our understanding some hidden feature. Why not just make a folder on the iPod to store your iCal files, then copy them to their respective folders at work/home when you reach each destination?
It can't be more than a few minutes work to write the AppleScript to copy the files. Plug the iPod in, open it from the desktop, double-click the script. posted by bcwinters at 8:57 PM on November 22, 2004
By the way, you'll find the iCal calendars in ~/Library/Calendars.
Another thing to try would be to replace the Calendars folder on both your home and work computers with an alias to the folder on your iPod where you want to store the calendars. You just have to make sure you don't launch iCal without the iPod plugged in; I'm not entirely sure what would happen if you did.
