Probably just a stock photo. At least that's my guess. posted by motorcycles are jets at 6:30 PM on April 21
I remember hearing something about Apple asking employees to submit all of their best photos (without any credit to them of course). That could be one of them. posted by 47triple2 at 7:23 PM on April 21
That kid freaks me right the hell out, with the crazy eyes. For that reason, I highly doubt it's stock photography, which usually feature beaming, happy kids. I will ask a friend at Apple and report back, perhaps there is lore about it floating around about its origins. posted by cj_ at 8:24 PM on April 21 [1 favorite]
The answer is definitely out there; I'm fairly sure I remember reading a blog entry about who the kid is. I've dug a little bit, but can't find it. Let me dig a little more. posted by WCityMike at 8:34 PM on April 21
Well, the best I can help is that John Calhoun was the name of the programmer who rewrote Preview for 10.3. So if he's got an e-mail address, or if anyone knows of an online venue he's in, perhaps he could answer your question. posted by WCityMike at 8:47 PM on April 21
wow those are some awful graphics - the kid is fine, but what's with the tank orange and the lascivious ferret? posted by 5_13_23_42_69_666 at 1:48 AM on April 22
Just a follow-up: I asked a friend at Apple if there was any lore about this, and he came up blank (actually he made this.. apologies in advance). He did look through Apple's database of stock photography and was unable to locate this picture, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not stock.
