I'm trying to locate the origin of the phrase "The righteous man champions the lost cause, knowing that all other causes are just merely events."

I'm trying to source this for a friend. Sadly, I don't have any additional information to work with and my weak Google searches have been fruitless. Thanks

This search gives the name of Ferdinand Foch.

I saw that when I was doing my original search but the link doesn't actually provide any information. Also, when I search using his name, I can't find any attribution of the quote to him. I'd feel more comfortable if I could find one or two sources to confirm. Thanks :)
