Drinking from Russel's Teapot

CharityFilter: Looking for a humanist charity to contribute to. Must not be extremist. Would also consider donating time and/or brain power. More details inside.

First off, I am not looking for a debate on the relative merits of secularism/humanism/rationalism vs. religion/theism. I've made my informed decision and am looking to help an organization that supports secularism in general and promotes the teaching of evolution and the dissociation of religion and politics.

Said organization should not be of the radical, in-your-face variety. I don't want to support people who start shouting matches.

Any thoughts, HiveMind?

The NAS perhaps, or maybe the NCSE?

Center For Inquiry
would seem to fit the bill.

One that springs to mind that would use the money in the most public way is the American Humanist Association.

One possible way to do this would be to find an organization that supports people who are leaving their faith. For example, young people leaving ultra orthodox Judaism can find themselves without any experience in the world and without any safety net at all and completely adrift from their entire support network and family. I believe there are people working to help them find their balance and find a positive way in the secular world. It's maybe a personal version of what you're talking about, and could be especially appropriate if you've also left something like that behind.
