Suggest underappreciated music for a 60s/70s dance party.

I'd like to put together a playlist with songs like this:
Can - Vitamin C
The Hygrades - In the Jungle
Demian - Windy City

Please suggest to me some music that fits this set of criteria:

-from the 60s or 70s
-not too well known -- slightly out of the mainstream; covers; alternate takes or maybe b-sides of better-known recordings
-able to get people bumping on the dance floor

Along somewhat similar lines, then, but from the US of A (New Orleans) you certainly shouldn't omit Meters tunes like Look-ka Py Py or Cissy Strut. Also highly recommended is this classic release, The Wild Tchoupitoulas. Very danceable.

Check some of Rufus Thomas' Stax tracks like Walking the Dog, etc. And speaking of Stax, some Booker T and the MGs should find their way into your mix, too, IMHO. Hey, you might even get folks dancing like the crazy go-go chicks in this version of Green Onions...

And forgive me if none of these suggestions are 'underground' enough :)

Jef Gilson and Malagasy - 'Zao - this is from I think 1979 but was I guess just reissued. Can't find a good link to it but the second track is awesome.
