I have the Asus one. I hooked it up with a 360. Screen & picture is great and meets expectation, 1080P is good and no lags. I bought it mainly for the HDMI hook up and the audio out, which was rare back then. Things that I do not like:
1. The stand is not firm, wiggles everytime you need to press buttons.
2. it displays blue screen every time a video source is out (powered off, sleep etc). This may be tweaked, but I just don't have the time to go over the manual.
Sorry if it does not tell you which one is a better buy. I know nothing about the Acer one. posted by aseno at 11:06 AM on April 10
I just bought an Acer H233H, which looks very similar to the Acer you're considering, but it's a 23" rather than a 21.5". Physically, it looks identical to the H213H, judging by the Newegg pictures.
And I'm running my PS3 on it, in 1080p, over the HDMI cable (which is bundled with the monitor, convienently). It looks fantastic, as does my desktop, which is running on the same monitor (over DVI) and my Xbox (over VGA). Given the crazy-low price (even my 23" was just $219, and I picked it up at my local Frye's, so no shipping), I'm really happy with it.
One thing to note: the built-in speakers are terrible, and if you connect your PS3 via HDMI, it will by default send the sound signal through them. If you have your own speakers, you can connect them using the PS3 output cable; you just have to change a setting in the PS3 options. Good luck! posted by molybdenum at 11:06 AM on April 10
I have an H213H, and have no real complaints with it, but no special praise either. It's a monitor. I'm not cursing the people at Acer who built it. I don't use the speakers, but I can't imagine they're very good. I wish I'd bought a bigger one, but y'know, that's been true for every single monitor or hard drive I've ever purchased. posted by tyllwin at 12:13 PM on April 10
I have the ASUS, except the 22" version. It works as advertised and I am pleased with it. I like the different pre-set brightness/color/contrast settings, and the speakers are ok for built-ins. Overall I am pleased. posted by no1hatchling at 10:06 PM on April 12
I finally made a decision and bought the ASUS VH242H. Newegg dropped the price to $190 for a limited time so that really influenced my decision. I'm totally satisfied with it thus far. Everything looks crisp and vibrant. Only two gripes really, the sound and menu controls. I'll be using a 2.1 speaker setup and the preset menu options, so both issues are not a major concern. All in all, great value for money. posted by Mr_Thirdworld at 7:10 PM on May 26
