Levemir for diabetes?

Questions about using Levemir.

After two A1Cs of 8.6, the doctor has prescribed Levemir at 20 units day. Every third day he would like me to increase the dosage by 2 units until my waking blood sugar is around 100.

If you've used Levemir before, has it worked well for you? Do you have to stay on it for the rest of your life? What sort of side effects has it brought? Were there any additional benefits to its use, such as weight loss? How did it affect your daily numbers (I test about 5 or 6 times a day)? Anything else I should know about using the drug?

Levemir is just a long acting insulin. What side effects are you worried about from insulin?
