What websites out there allow me to manually enter a list of my favourite bands and then suggest similar music to me?

What websites out there allow me to manually enter a list of my favourite bands and then suggest similar music to me? The websites I have found so far offer to scan my iTunes library but I don't use iTunes so I must be able to enter the bands manually. The bands should be suggested based on the tastes of other users rather than advertising e.t.c.

Unfortunately, as I am outside of the USA, Pandora is not an option but thanks for the tip anyway!

The service must be usable in the UK.

Last.fm works really well for this...I've found out about a lot of awesome bands through it.

Have you tried Spotify? It does this on a modest scale (i.e. it suggests a only handful of similar bands at a time) but has the advantage of being able to stream the music in full. It's free to use in the UK.

Last.fm is quite awesome. Much, much better than Pandora.

Last.fm now requires a paid account outside the US, UK, and Germany. It might help if you specified your country.

Nthing Last.fm. What music player do you use? I'm not on iTunes either, but there's Last.fm client software for pretty much every player out there.

I have noticed that AskMe works really well for this. Seriously.

But if your question is just "I like [this band] -- what other music would I like?" it's really better to try last.fm first, because that'll usually give you so much material that you won't feel the need to spend an AskMe question on it. Seriously.
