Help me turn my contract job into a real job!

For a school-sponsored work-term, I'm currently working as a Software Developer for a very large software company, and I couldn't be happier at my job. Problem is, I'm nearing the halfway point of my one-year contract. How do I turn this into a full-time job?

They offer flex hours, a casual work environment, are supportive of stuff I do outside of work, AND I get to work on really interesting things. They have a history of hiring interns, and aren't (yet) laying people off. I've received nothing but stellar performance evaluations.

I'd really like to work here after I graduate, but I have no idea what the etiquette is. I have a meeting with my manager next week, and in the past, she's kind of mentioned that they hire interns. Should I do something to let her know that I'm interested in work beyond this term, or just continue doing my best and hope for the best? Please give me suggestions!

Just ask! If you're interested in working there full-time, just tell your manager what you told us. 6 months is plenty of time to get the ball rolling. If your evaluations really are stellar then you should have a pretty good chance.

Yeah, just ask. Say "I want a full-time job". It's easier than you probably think.

If she has mentioned to you that they hire interns, you are probably in a good spot.
