Artistic razor haircutting in Chicago?

Chicagoans: I am looking for a hairstylist in the city (preferably downtown or close to it) that knows how to use the razor cutting (or artistic razor) technique. Anyone go to someone they can recommend? I am a woman with long hair, and I'm looking for someone who is good at this - I've asked several places I know of, and while many stylists say they can do it, no one has said they prefer this. I'm hoping to transition away from my old NYC stylist.

I go to Milios (just off the Red Line Belmont stop) in Lakeview. When I get my haircut I usually let the stylist do whatever she thinks will look best, so I've never requested razor cutting. However, it's been done twice (with great results), as that's what was preferred by the stylist. The first time was kind of a while ago; I think her name started with an L (but it wasn't Libby, Lydia, or Lizzy (sorry to go off on this rambling tangent here, but if you call them they'll run through their stylists...there IS a Libby/Lydia/Lizzy who works there...but she's not the one I'm talking about)) but I didn't go back to her because she was too expensive for me. The other one is Justina. I've been going to her regularly for a while now. I have since changed my hair and she doesn't do the razor cutting on me anymore, but I've seen her do it on others while I've waited.

You can also call them (773.549.1461) and ask them about their stylists' strengths. I've been getting my hair cut at Milios for four years now by several different folks and I've always been pleased. Happy hair hunting!

I had an okay, not great experience at Milios (I have long hair and it sounds like you want what I wanted). If you find someone great there, let me know.

I highly recommend Sine Qua Non Salon. I go to the Lakeview location even though I live nowhere near the salon, my stylist is worth it. They are very helpful in matching a hairstylist to your specific needs, and they even give short bios and specialties of each stylist on their website for all three of their locations. It looks like a few of their stylists at the Lincoln Park salon (I've never visited that location) could be great for you: Sam, Holly (also specializes in long hair), April.

I'm not sure what their thoughts are on razor cuts, but I am a fan of Prink -- they're at 689 N. Milwaukee.

Response by poster: Thanks everyone! I'll start with these suggestions.

Ultra Laser - is there someone in particular you go to at Prink? That's better geographically for me and I can call to ask about razor cutting.
