SC Divorce Lawyer

I need a divorce lawyer. (Well, *I* don't, but a friend does.) A mean one. One who makes other lawyers cry. Preferably one who has dealt with abuse cases and very wealthy people. In South Carolina. Anybody have any recommendations?

I have an uncle who does high profile criminal law in South Carolina. He's a criminal lawyer, but the sort of pitbull you describe. I don't think he could handle a case like that, but might know someone really good who could. I dropped you an email with the details.

Matlock is a pretty effective lawyer, in nearby Georgia, and I think I've seen him do divorce-related law on at least one occasion.

This is why I will never practice family law. Clients who look for lawyers with those credentials are never happy and they're horrible to work with. Family law attorneys get more bar complaints that any other area of practice and it's because people getting divorces tend to be bitter, cruel and never satisfied.

But to answer your question, s/he should ask people they know who've gotten divorced. The best way to find a good professional is through referrals.

Find a way to settle the divorce without acrimony and without a mean lawyer and your friend will be the better for it.

If dejah's friend has been abused by her wealthy husband, as is the clear implication, what are the odds that he's is going to play nice? Well-trained pit bulls are nice to have around for defense when someone else is trying to rip out your throat.

dejah, I hope jessamyn's uncle or someone else here can help get your friend a nice settlement and some peace of mind. I don't have an "answer" per se, except to cheer you on.

That's exactly the situation Melissa. Plus, he just relocated them all to SC, so she doesn't know anyone local who isn't working for her husband.

Well...yeah. I mean, divorce is a painful, ugly, horrid thing most of the time. There's recrimination towards the other, towards oneself, towards the universe at large...I mean, nobody (one hopes) goes skipping into divorce proceedings all "tra la la"ing about the place. (Media darlings aside, of course.)

That said, there isn't enough money to make me practice family law either. *shudder*

Often easier said than done. There are some people that consider "nice and polite" to be a sign of weakness. You can only negotiate with people like that from a point of strength.
