Create a group/filter. Add friend to that group/filter. Customize your Profile>Privacy settings to block members of that group from showing up on your wall updates. posted by iamkimiam at 7:27 AM on March 17
Er, sorry. By 'group/filter' I mean Friend List, found under the Friends tab. posted by iamkimiam at 7:29 AM on March 17
On the front page, you can hover over the top right of their updates and ignore them. They will still be your friend, but their updates will no longer show up on your news feed. posted by Houyhnhnm at 7:31 AM on March 17 [2 favorites has favorites]
With the new Facebook, anyone you put on the news feed filter you want to see less of won't show up on your News Feed at all. posted by ThePinkSuperhero at 7:48 AM on March 17 [1 favorite has favorites]
Yep, when they appear on your feed click the X in the upper right corner of their post. When you hover over it says "Hide Susie" (or whoever.) They will not appear again on your feed and they don't know that you're hiding them. At the bottom of the feed you can restore those people's posts back to your feed. posted by ALongDecember at 7:57 AM on March 17 [1 favorite has favorites]
Looks like the answer has been give, so I'd like to hijack the question while we have all the Facebook brains in one place... Has anyone found a way of disabling certain applications from the feed? I might want to see a friend's updates, but I don't care that they've just go a new high score in Bejeweled or whatever... posted by benzo8 at 10:18 AM on March 17
You can go to "friends" and just see status updates. However as far as I can tell, if you are looking at the front page, your only options are to get everything from a certain friend, or nothing. This is annoying me lately because I like to see status updates, notes, pictures, etc., but do not want to see quiz results or people talking to each other twitter-style. posted by mai at 11:04 AM on March 17
You can go to your own application settings and set them up so that they don't notify everyone whenever you take a quiz, etc. And you can encourage your friends to do the same.
I wish "Friends" showed comments, too. posted by Riverine at 4:35 PM on March 17
I've now discovered how to block individual applications from your news feed...
When an application posts a story in your feed, it places a small icon of itself in the bottom left-hand corner of the story. Clicking on this takes you to the applications information page, where there is a "Block Application" option. posted by benzo8 at 3:11 AM on March 20
