Question: Corrupt Photoshop CS3/CS4 files

I tried installing Photoshop CS4 several times on my Macbook Pro and each time, the icon showed up as a circle with a line through it (see this screenshot). I gave up and am trying to reinstall Photoshop CS3 and it is telling me it's already installed (even though I already uninstalled it).

Help! Something is corrupt and is preventing me from installing CS4 or CS3. How can I completely wipe my computer of everything Adobe and start over?

Stupid question - have you actually tried clicking the icon?

Yes. I forget what exactly it said, but something about that file type not being supported by the system.

If a package tells you its already installed when you have uninstalled it, you may try looking in /Library/Receipts and removing the corresponding receipt.

Following your advice, I just looked in there. There were a bunch of .pkg files but none were related to Adobe Products. =\

Adobe uses their own custom installer, so nothing will be founf in Library/Receipts

This script from Adobe should help with the cleanup. This is the CS3 version.

I see this happen with a lot of new installs. I don't know why it happens with some and not with others, but logging out and back in again fixes it.
