Question: Texas To-Dos?

I'm stuck in Texas!

Well, not stuck exactly, but I have some free time. I'm currently in Denton, TX and looking for cheap/free activities to get me though the rest of the weekend, within reasonable driving distance. Bonus for photogenic/neat/historical places. (Reasonable can be arbitrarily defined as, let's say, 50 miles.)

I definitely wouldn't rule out meeting other Mefites for coffee, as human companionship/conversation would be a plus. My cell phone # is in my profile, and I welcome calls.
I recommend the sixth floor Museum in downtown Dallas. This was the location Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated John F. Kennedy on 22 November, 1963.

A friend suggested that a good starting place is Recycled Books, especially the rare book room.

You might take a look at this list.

From that list, historic photogenic places might be
- Victorian homes on West Oak St.
- Little Chapel in the Woods

You are in the Prairies and Lakes part of Texas. Here's a list of other things in that general area, including the Sixth Floor that Daddysugar recommends.

Head over to the UNT College of Music - there are a bunch of recitals going on there at all times (I'm going to one tomorrow at 3:30), and they're always top notch. If you like classical style music, this is a great bet.

Fort Worth has great museums--The Modern, The Kimbell, and The Amon Carter are all
on the same block. You could easily spend a day touring them.

You could go to Grapevine and visit some wineries. It's on the way to Ft. Worth, if you decide to head that way. I'd join you but I'm about 4 hours away.

Thanks all. As the poet said, the best laid plans "oft gang a'gley'. There was an outbreak of sanity, and I'm headed home. I'll bookmark this for the next time I'm down this way.

If you want to add to this, please do- I'll ( or someone else will) surely use this at some point in the near future.

Thanks, everyone!

Strongly seconding Ft. Worth's museums. I could suggest some fun areas to drive in Dallas, but I'll save it :).
