A novel about Jesus in India

Dear Hivemind: Sometime during the 90s or right at the beginning of the new century, I read a novel about a Roman slave, who was trained as a physician, and a character supposed to be Jesus during his lost years.

They travel together to NW India. There is an Indo-Greek kingdom there under siege. I remember that much about the book, but I can't remember the title or author. Please help put me out of my misery.

It's definitely not Lamb.

Response by poster: Yes, that was it, Houstonian!

Thanks everyone. I had a librarian friend find it for me as well. Apparently there is a search engine that will let you search for plot points.

Whew. That was bugging me.
