Why is my Mac saying "Segmentation fault" when all I want to do is SSH?

Running 10.5.6, my mac refuses to SSH to anything and gives the error "Segmentation fault" in Terminal. My Google-Fu has been very unsuccessful so far.

Sadly, I have no idea what could have caused it, as I can't tie it to a specific installation of anything. All I do know is that it's very annoying, and my only solution is to restart my computer, and then SSH works for a little while.

I've tried re-installing the 10.5.6 update, as a few searches showed a similar problem happening a few years ago due to an OS update. That didn't do anything.

I'd really love to not re-install Leopard. Any ideas?

Do you have AirFoil or Audio Hijack Pro installed?

Response by poster: Yes! Both actually - and only for about a week, thinking about it.. I sense a solution coming on here.. They're tied together?

Best answer: Temporary fix:
sudo /usr/local/hermes/bin/hermesctl unload
Long term fix:
Update your Rogue Amoeba software.

Response by poster: Software updated and fingers crossed. Airfoil was an old version, so hopefully that fixes it. Thanks for helping out so quickly - hopefully that does it.

Odd that audio software is messing with SSH though, no?

It's because it's using an InputManager for the "Instant Hijack" feature. InputManagers are hacks by definition, and have the capability to break almost anything.
