Question: How to get mp3s without "save link as" option (from THIS filesanywhere page)

how do I download mp3s from fileshare? My friend plays for the orchestra these songs are there to practice for, but has no internet connection, and wants these files on cd. I want to help him.

I'm using Mac OSX, 10.5.

I'm using Firefox 3.0.6.

I've tried "firebug" and "downloadthemall" firefox extensions, and unless I'm using them badly, I don't think they work.

The recording quality has to be good (it's for an orchestra violinist), so I don't think I can record the sound with an external mp3 recorder (which I do have), although that will be a last resort. Any other ideas before them? This is the link:

Did you try the "sign up" button? I think you need an account to download them. Without an account, they're not meant to be downloadable --- there might be some way to rip an mp3 out of the flash audio player, but try making a (free) account first...

I clicked the check box next to one of the files and pressed the View/Play button. When the player window opened up, I viewed my Activity window in Safari and scrolled down to where the mp3 file was listed. Then I selected the entire mp3 URL and pasted that into the Download window. Here's one URL.

It seems to be implied by the page source.

Thanks emelenjr! Just out of curiosity, how would one do that in Firefox? It works perfectly in Safari

To do it in Firefox, you would select Page Info under Tools, and then look in the Media tab for the mp3 URL.

interesting, I don't know if you've tried it, but I couldn't get that info by following the Tools/Page Info thing. The mp3 URL doesn't show up

Ha, you're right. I didn't bother to download the mp3 via Firefox earlier because I was confident about the media tab under Page Info. My apologies, omnigut.

To do this in Firefox, you can use Live HTTP Headers. Once it's installed, go to Tools -> Live HTTP Headers to open the dialog before you've clicked on View/Play. Once the music has begun playing, you can look back at the Live Headers dialog and you'll be able to find the URL you're looking for (in this particular case it will appear a little weird in that all of the spaces will be replaced with "%20" and all the periods will be replaced with "%2E").

Also if you've already loaded a given file it may not work because your computer will have it cached, but if you clear your cache first it should appear.
