Help me, independent Film Lovers (especially you Brits)! I can't remember the title, the actors, or the plot.... posted by Secret Life of Gravy to (7 comments total)
Dave and I just watched The Station Agent, and afterwards we were discussing serious roles for dwarves. I have some vague memory of an independent movie released about 2 to 3 years ago. I think it was about a normal-sized woman raising her dwarf son. I thought the title was the main character's name...something like "Johnny Starlight." The only I remember for sure is the lead actor received much acclaim.
Dunno that one. At first I thought you were talking about Things You Can Tell Just By Looking at Her, which has a normal sized woman raising a normal sized son, but who is intrigued by a dwarf who moves in across the street. The movie's worth a watch if you haven't seen it. posted by dobbs at 1:56 PM on November 4, 2004
Secret Life of Gravy: Is Frankie Starlight the flick you're looking for? posted by aine42 at 1:58 PM on November 4, 2004
The actor with dwarfism who stars in The Station Agent has an unforgettable role in Living in Oblivion, which I highly advise you to rent. Good movie; good use of Steve Buscemi.
Don't forget Linda Hunt when talking about successful actors with dwarfism, either! posted by Sidhedevil at 2:20 PM on November 4, 2004
Frankie Starlight?
Bingo!
Thanks so much guys! I knew you would come through. For some reason when I typed "Starlight" into the IMDB search, Frankie Starlight did not come up. And all sorts of strange and wacky things (but, again not F S) came up when I used "Dwarf.," like: Hank the Angry Drunken Dwarf in Bikini Bandits,
... aka Bikini Bandits Experience,
... aka Bikini Bandits Go to Hell
1995...heh. It seemed like just a year or two ago-- I always meant to see this.
And I did see Living in Oblivion- liked it very much. posted by Secret Life of Gravy at 4:14 PM on November 4, 2004
Linda Hunt was great in the Year of Living Dangerously, I bet the whole cross-dressing thing freaked Mel Gibson out. posted by graventy at 7:52 PM on November 4, 2004
