How can I make my gmail "ding" when I get a new email?

I want my gmail to make a noise when I get a new email. It does it when someone gchats me, how do I get it to make a sound when a new message comes in? It is probably a really easy fix but I'm not finding it. Thanks all!!

Best answer: You can download the Gmail Notifier. It pings and flashes when you get new mail and a little thingy pops up telling you who it's from too. Hope this helps.

I setup pidgin for gchat and there is a tick box under account management where you can say "New Mail Notification"

Gmail notifier is nice too like ziggy said.

Response by poster: Ok, I'm stupid. Can I use that with firefox? I'm running Windows 7.

Best answer: It doesn't matter what browser you're using since it's a windows program. I haven't tried it with windows 7.

You could use this firefox extension though https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1320 called gmail manager.

Follow-up thread derail: Is there a similar program that will check for new mail in labels, not just the inbox? I would love a GMail notifier but I am obsessive about filtering email out of my inbox and thus very rarely get "new mail" directly in the Inbox. So in the past GMail Notifier has been of little help for me. Has this changed?
