Will it fit?

Can I find a 37" 16:9 TV that will in a 36" wide cubbyhole?
And even if I can find a 36" wide set, should I be leaving space at the sides for ventilation?

And the LC37D64U is less than 900 mm wide. (the first one was the LC37D44U, in case canadian urls don't work for you).

That's going to be very tight. Look for a set without speakers on the sides, of course, and I'd be concerned about ventilation. The other non-obvious problem is many sets have controls or inputs on the sides which will be blocked in a tight fit. Check you don't need to access them.
FWIW I looked up my set; the Samsung LN37A550 is a 37" screen, but is 36.1" wide and so is a bit too big. The smaller LN32A550 would be no problem but is a 32" screen, smaller than you're looking for.

Most Vizio's have speakers along the bottom, so I'd look there. Of course, the quality isn't quite as good as, say, a Sony Bravia, but apparently with the correct calibration they still look hella good.

Response by poster: So there are sets that will squeeze in: will top and bottom ventilation be enough?

Best answer: Typically HDTVs vent from the top. Hot air rises from the top portion of the television. The actual sides dont have vents, but the back and bottom do and these will need fresh air and the hot air from the top will need somewhere to go. You dont want the area surrounding the tv to be below 90 degrees. Heck, I would be worried at around 85.

I'd go see it in person with a measuring tape before buying.
