Wurst in Houston, TX.

Where can I buy authentic German Weisswurst (or any other sausage that would go well with homemade soft pretzels) in Houston, TX? I live in the Museum District and will have access to a car after 6pm, but I'd prefer not to have to leave the loop.

Germandeli.com has a retail store in Colleyville, TX. I have no idea if that's anywhere near "the loop" (I'm thousands of miles from "the loop" in another state, envying your German deli retail location).

It looks like Kenny and Ziggy's Deli has knockwurst. Granted, they are one block outside the loop (in the strip mall with Pier One and DSW), but they are generally pretty solid, and I don't say that lightly as I h*te going anywhere near the Galleria. If you call, you might find they have more wurst options than the ones I saw on their menu.

Uh, Colleyville is up near Dallas, hundreds of miles away. The HEB-Plus where I shop has all sorts of special sausages, including the German-style stuff from Bellville and all those other little towns between here and Central Texas. If we have it out here in Pearland (way outside the Loop), I imagine you could find a similar or even better selection at Central Market. If that big Randalls on Westheimer is on your way, you might check in there, too.

Maybe Fiesta? They do meat pretty well.

Best answer: Try Central Market on Westheimer. I was in there on Tuesday and they had several different types of German sausages.

Central Market is around the corner from me. I'm on a mission for wurst after reading this question. Great question halogen!

Response by poster: For the record, I was able to buy some Westphalian bratwurst and black pepper bratwurst at Central Market, but no fresh weisswurst, knockwurst or bockwurst.

Response by poster: And by knockwurst I meant Knackwurst, of course. It's been a while.
