Homebodies

Is it just me or as men age do they become more homebodies happy to surf the internet, watch cable television and just relax?

My GF loves to go out to eat and to the movies while I feel content to make a home made meal and watch a movie on cable television.

I think it just depends on the person.

Your situation sounds more like you are just really comfortable being around her and don't feel the need to go spend money every night doing frivolous entertainment.

I've always been a bit of a homebody (23 yo) but I'm always up for going out if someone else wants to. Saying "yes" to go do stuff is way better than saying "no" and staying in a comfort zone.

42 here. I'm with the OP. The older I get the more I just want to stay home. It takes a LOT to get me out the door. Just doesn't seem worth it to go out and have to interact with stupid humans. I can only imagine what I'll be like when I'm 60.

Depends on personality not gender. I know plenty of couples where the roles are reversed (guy is outgoing, women is nesting).

I'd ask Mr. TXVT, but he's napping right now.

Best answer: I think it´s just people who tend to want to go out less when they get older, except for the people who want to go out more.

You are probably less driven to go out and engage in mate-seeking behavior than before you met your GF.

That's been my experience with my husband. He's 42 years old and we've been married for 21 years. In his younger years he was out and about all the time (either with me or with friends). Whenever he had a day off from work he wanted to be out doing something. His biggest hobby at the time was motocross.

We had our two children fairly early (they're 20 and 16 now) and we were always out and about with them too, going to the zoo or the park, or other activities. I was a stay-at-home mom, so it felt like a treat to just "get out of the house" for awhile.

In the past 5 years or so, he's become more of a homebody. He likes tinkering around in the garage and the yard, working on various household projects, playing online games. We still go out occasionally, but it's definitely not as much of an urgent "need" on his part anymore.

Back in the day of stay at home housewives, the pattern was often that men, once no longer forced to go to the goddamn job everyday, were relieved to do the opposite. Housewives, of course, vice versa.

Not sure how that plays out with the New Social Order.

I am a 45-year-old male, married, with one 7-year-old child. Though I am presently out of work, our days begin hectically around 6:30 in the morning and end hectically around 8:00 in the evening, as they have for the lasr seven years. Between work, childcare, and other basic responsibilities, by the time the weekend rolls around, the most appealing thing is to stay home and snag some peace and quiet. My present unemployment changes the mid-day dynamic a little, but not as much as you might think.

It's not that I wouldn't want to go out, and, having come late to parenthood, I miss the childless life quite a lot, but there's only just so much of me to go around.

If you're asking this because you're unhappy with your situation (to me, it doesn't sound like you're unhappy), try reading Yes Man.

Do you mean all the time? Or... especially today... Feb. 14... Valentine's Day?
