Boombox

AudioFilter: I want a boombox. All the ones I see these days are low-power. I'd like one that is reasonably portable, but produces a fair amount of sound, sort of like the ghetto-blasters of days gone by. I'll generally be running this off line power, not batteries. I'd be willing to consider other options, like a discman + powered speakers, but it does have to be portable and pretty loud. For the sake of argument, let's say my budget is $250. Recommendations?

i have a "micro" hifi that i paid $160 for. it looks like a tiny stereo (small centre thing that plays cds etc; pair of small speakers). if you're using line power, you could just get one of those. it's about the same size as an old, large ghettoblaster (does that word have vague racial overtones?) - the only differences are that there's no battery compartment and the speakers are not fastened to the central doodah.
