Looking for a virtual sympathetic ear

Is there a website or online community where I can just go and rant about something that's pissing me off?

I don't have a blog, I've already discussed it with a couple of close friends and I've written about it in my journal but this recent event is still eating at me....I'm looking for a place where I can vent my anger so I can just get over this thing and start the weekend with a light heart, a skip in my step and a spark in my eye.

Hive mind, please point the way.

(Please don't suggest therapy, I just need to blow off some steam)

Best answer: Craigslist! Then if it's particularly hateful or funny, it'll get posted to the 'best of' list.

A blog takes about 10 seconds to set up.

Are you looking for a sympathetic ear, or do you want to just go and rant/vent/whatever?

Apologies, I think the site I was thinking of was http://grouphug.us/ which is currently offline. That'll teach me to check my URLs before hitting submit.

Sounds like you need a blog.

Best answer: At the Straight Dope Message Boards, there's a forum labeled 'The BBQ Pit'. Some current thread titles include:

"What part of "NO DOGS" do you not understand???"
"Ooh, ooh, Michael Phelps smoked pot, ooh ooh ooh, the demon weed"
"ARGH! Microsoft, Windows Service Packs, and 12+ hours of my time..."
"Someone else's incompetence cost me a night's sleep"
"How to use apostrophes, for fuck's sake - redux"

Of course, instead of starting a new dedicated thread, you can post in "New for 2009! Mini-rants!"

Best answer: A recent question about how to spend New Year's Eve alone gave a great answer for this. If you want some kind of feedback or conversation, use the suggestions above. However, if you simply want to get rid of the anger and frustration on a personal level, this really worked for me. Set aside some time for this. Write down the whole, complete experience on paper. Spend some time on it, pour it all out. Then walk away, take a long hot bath, music, wine if you're so inclined, etc, whatever you need to calm yourself and relax. Then, light a nice candle and burn the paper, telling yourself to let it go with the smoke as it burns.

I know this sounds kind of hokey, but I swear it worked for me on New Year's Eve. I really let go of my regrets and sorrows this way, and every time they tried to creep back in, I could visualize this experience and remind myself that I had released myself from them.

I promise, this works.

I don't have a blog...

Solution: go to Blogger.com and start one. It's free and easy.

Or: post a "note" in Facebook. That way you can reach more people you know. If you're not on Facebook, go to Facebook.com, create an account, add your friends, then post the note.

There's some kind of community for that in LiveJournal, but I'm not sure what it is/was called. Maybe someone else here knows.

I've been wondering about this as well. I don't have a blog; stuff happens to me rarely enough that I'd hardly ever update, so it would be too much work to set up & maintain.

I think this may be your outlet....msn.office live They gave me a free website and hosting. I thought about turning my family webpage into a blog primarily for that purpose..RANTING!

Best answer: Seconding barnone. This is exactly what Craigslist's Rants and Raves is typically used for.
Your profile says you're in Warsw, Poland, so I would start here (if you want to post locally)

Response by poster: Great suggestions everyone, thanks.

A blog would be overkill for this and Facebook would draw too much attention from people who don't need to know about it.

I'll give one of the websites a try and and send my rant up in smoke as raisingsand suggested.
