Oooh la la - Soigne!

Obscure style filter: Can you help me piece together this fantastic look using the interwebs? Help a girl go all Parisienne for winter.

Perhaps I ask too much, and winter is still a way off, but I'm thinking the outfit this outrageously chic young girl in black is wearing on Garance Doré, cigarette aside, is going to be my new all-purpose, go everywhere, devastatingly French, winter look. She's at the top of the page.

Caveats: I cannae afford Gianfranco Ferre, Chanel, Prada et al - so while I suspect this image contains a lot of designer goods, less expensive is more up my street. I'm thinking priced more like H&M, Gap, Banana Republic ...and if the piece is right, maybe A.P.C. or thereabouts. Are there similar items on sale up there, northern hemisphere people?

Also, I'm in Australia, so retailers here are ideal, as are online sources, provided they ship here. Thanks to accomodating family and friend connections I can also receive goods from London, or the USA.

And if you can't help me with all the bits and pieces - the boots. The BOOTS! Mon dieu!

I would appreciate any tips on the items I can gather, mefites! If you have seen anything which resembles these pieces, please hook me up... thanks!

Similar boots here, here, and here. (I searched "platform boots heel" and "platform short boot" and "platform stacked heel".)

The sweatshirt should be easy to find at American Apparel- look for a really thin one (words like"fine jersey", "sheer", etc). The opaque tights will be there, too. And here's a somewhat similar skirt (you'd want to go a few sizes too big so it would fit more A-line).

If you can find a similar jacket (maybe vintage), it shouldn't cost too much to get a seamstress to sew the faux-snake trim around the hem and collar. You can find textured ribbon or faux snake fabric at a ribbon shop or large fabric store. Try to find something very very thin and pliable, or the hem of your jacket will be all stiff and weird- remember it'll be a double-thickness when it's sewed on the hem. I'd bring a printout of the image, in colour if possible, for help finding the right kind of trim.

You could also send a request to FashionUnder$100 to piece together the outfit.

If this is a look you're interested in beyond this (great) outfit, you might want to start reading Joanna Goddard's blog A Cup Of Jo.

Inspired by Garance Doré, she made a New Year's resolution to dress more French. So far, she's made a photo survey of French style, then did an interview with Ms. Doré herself on the subject.

(Also, since you enjoy Garance Doré, you might be interested in something I wrote recently about the site's effect on viewers: self-link.)
