Best Slow Cooker Clam Chowder for my Super Bowl Party?

Looking for a great recipe I can put on the night before, and cook all night to be ready for the game! New England preferred but will consider all types.

I can only hope this is a subtle protest of the outdated and irrational NFL playoff system that let the Chargers into the playoffs while the Patriots were denied.

Anyways, this one has bacon, which is awesome.

Go Pats!

Best answer: Well, firstly, you dont need to cook clam chowder all that long, and clams in particular kinda turn rubbery if they are overcooked.

Also, clam chowder (or any chowder really) is pretty easy. Here's a basic recipe from Epicurious. My modifications would be: use only fresh ingredients. Unless you are really good at NOT burning a roue, leave out the flour and add a tablespoon or so of corn starch to some warm water as a thickener and add at the end.

Cooking time: Just use a big pot and put on low for the simmering. When the potatoes are done, throw in whatever seafood you are using (again fresh) and the milk/cream/thickener, put it on lowest setting and let it go. Should take around an hour but you can always turn up the heat. Total work time: about 10-15 min (not including some prep) and an hour or so of watching the stove.

Or, just follow the recipe the day before, and put it on a low burner to warm on the day. May even get better overnight.

Yeah, clam chowder is not hard and doesn't take very long. Leave the thickeners to Applebee's, though.

I would never ever consider putting clams in a slow cooker. Perhaps if my jaw were to suddenly atrophy and need a really good workout. Even then, ick.

If you just want lazy clam chowder, Costco's stuff isn't too bad.

Also, isn't the bacon meme over with yet?

Another vote for not putting shellfish in a slow cooker. But definitely putting in bacon. A little for New England, and a ton for Manhattan.
