Is there any way to use a 24" Cinema Display with an older Macbook that does not have a Mini DisplayPort?

No. There are adapters that will do the reverse (change a mini-DisplayPort equipped notebook to DVI or VGA) but from a male mini-DisplayPort to DVI or mini-DVI.

AFAIK, the adapter you need, from DVI to Mini DisplayPort, does not exist. The signals aren't the same so it would be a pricey item anyways.

(The opposite adapter does exist.)
