Have tried asking teachers for their suggestions.

Otherwise, hit the bookstore or college bookstore.

It's incredibly simplistic and sometimes silly, but the Graphic Design Cookbook is one of my favorite places to go when I just have no idea where to start. It's essentially a book full of thumbnails of various layouts - both basic and really "out there".

For serious inspiration and to keep up with trends, all of JJ86's suggestions are excellent.
