Yet another "trying to remember an old Mac game" question....

Trying to remember the name of an old mac computer game: Like chess, but the board could be set up differently, with blank spaces around which pieces had to move . Pieces moved like both checkers and chess. Some of them were "magical" -- could teleport to other spaces or serve as a wall. Certain spaces on the board were also magical -- destroying pieces, etc. Any ideas? Thanks.

Response by poster: It's similar to Archon, but the pieces were checker-like -- just disks with symbols that indicated what powers they had.

Of course, I meant to link to the Wikipedia entry on Archon, not to this thread.

...and we were all wrong anyway.

Response by poster: Really close, though. Same general concept as Archon. Pretty sure the game I'm thinking of had at least these types of "spells":

* Teleport - teleports one of your pieces to any square.
* Heal - fully heals one piece.
* Exchange - swaps the board locations of any two pieces.
* Revive - returns one of your defeated pieces to the board.

-- And probably others.

Of course, once I find the game I'll have to figure out how to play it on a newer mac.

It's Archon. All of those spells are in Archon, with those names. It's Archon.

Response by poster: I misspoke. What I meant to say is the "spells" were *similar* to those in Archon. Unless Archon changed it's pieces from creatures to checker-like disks, it's not Archon. Wish it was, but it's not.

Rosebud....
